E. Pauline Johnson (Tekahionwake)

A widely recognised Canadian poet, writer, and performer of Mohawk and European heritage, who became one of the most prominent Indigenous voices of her era. She had a unique ability to bridge differing cultural backgrounds, performing her works to widespread acclaim across Canada, the United States, and England, often appearing in traditional Mohawk dress. Johnson's writing compellingly fused Indigenous themes—including cultural pride, ancestral legends, and the injustices faced by First Nations peoples—with conventional Victorian poetic forms.
