Storm Jameson
Storm Jameson was different from many writers of her time. She was from the north of England, away from the cultural and artistic centre, and she was working class. Her writing career was not something she did in her spare time, but it was how she earned her living. Importantly for us, throughout her career which spanned two wars, she was committed to her leftist politics, and used her position of President of PEN International as a point of political action. Despite the success she enjoyed while living, she has been largely forgotten.
