Comyns unique and unconventional narratives and style were not entirely appreciated at the time of publication of her works. The re-issue of her novels in the Virago Modern Classics series helped the revival of her influence, and in the last few decades she has become a sort of cult classic. Critics like Lucy Scholes and Avril Horner have written about the process of rediscovery and republication of her work.
